Individual Therapeutic Support
"Powerful is our need to be known, really known by ourselves and others, even if only for a moment."
Carl Rogers
Welcome! I offer a warm, relaxed and empathic space to help you develop self-understanding, compassion and acceptance in the face of difficult life experiences.
Many people find it daunting to come for counselling or psychotherapy and may feel anxious not knowing what to expect. I understand how difficult it can be which makes it important that you feel you have a sense of whether I am the right person to work with you.
I can offer you a safe, confidential space where you will be listened to without judgement. You can explore either "here and now" issues, or more deep seated long standing issues that are impacting your daily life. Counselling can help you understand yourself, develop self-awareness and start to make your own choices in life.
In addition to my private practice, I have more than twelve years counselling experience working in a variety of therapy and psychology services; and significant experience in working with grief, loss and illness, including: an NHS secondary mental health service, a national bereavement charity, and a local hospice.
I am a professionally qualified and experienced Registered Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and a Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy MBACP. My skills, knowledge and training were achieved at the highest level available at the accredited Northern Guild Psychotherapy in the North East of England, UK.
I have been working with a wide range of issues including:- stress, depression, anxiety, bereavement, early trauma, abuse and relationship issues. My specialism is to work with Adults age 18 and over and/or Parents and Carers of Adults with ADHD and Autistic Spectrum Disorder. However, I do work with neurotypical clients too. My work is professionally supervised in accordance with the BACP guidelines and I adhere to the BACP Code of Ethics.
I work in a relational way, with an underlying model of Transactional Analysis as my foundation. Working relationally means that we will look at what happens between us in the therapy room as a tool to explore relationships you have with others. TA is a way of understanding and intervening in human behaviour and empowering people to take responsibility for their lives.
I can support you by offering a relaxed, safe and confidential space to explore your personal issues in a caring, accepting and respectful way to help you make sense of what is going on for you and what you want to change.
